How often should you get your eye checked?

Generally, it is good to have a comprehensive eye checkup every one or two years. Eye checkup may depend on your age, risk factors and whether you are already wearing corrective lenses. Eye Exam for Children 6 months to 18 years

The very first eye checkup should be at age of 6 months. The checkup is usually done by the pediatrician to ensure that the eyes are focusing properly and straight. The check-up also ensures that there are no signs of an internal eye disorder. It is recommendable to do the checkup to the children before they join the school

Eye Test for Adults 18 to 60 years

Adults should have a comprehensive eye checkup every two years apart from those having certain risk factors. Whenever these conditions are discovered, it is advisable to seek advice from an eye care professional or medical doctor to determine the rate of checkup. If you come from a family that has a history of eye diseases such as macular or glaucoma degeneration, it is advisable to have an eye checkup once a year. Early detection minimizes chances of vision loss.

For those at the age of 61 years and above, eye checkup should be every year. As the body ages, some conditions affect the body as well. Detection of cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration at their early stages saves a person’s vision if the proper treatment plan is carried out. Aged people who own vehicles should be aware of age-based vision changes and diseases which affect the ability to see clearly in some conditions. This conditions may include bright light or low light.
